Influential booking almost landed multi-time WWE Women’s Champion elsewhere…

Becky Lynch has revealed she once considered signing with TNA Wrestling.

Becky, 37, disclosed her previous contractual consideration to Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour podcast. ‘The Man’ discussed how the booking of the company’s Knockouts division almost led her down a very different path before her mental health resulted in a seven-year exit from the squared circle altogether (H/T Sportskeeda Wrestling):

"I was 19 years old and I was about to move over to America to do a personal training diploma in Orlando and my goal was maybe I can get into TNA because the way that they were treating women there was so much better than the way that they were treating women in WWE. So I was like I can make a splash there, but when I got hurt and then I felt like I was just all over the place, I done this bodybuilding competition, my hormones were all—I was just depressed. I was depressed, I was anxious, I was all over the place and I was just lost... So I left wrestling for seven years.”

Becky Lynch’s depression stemmed from a severe injury suffered in Germany in 2006. Diagnosed with possible damage in her eighth cranial nerve - a nerve that connects the inner ear to the brain - Lynch described the pain as being like “extremely painful headaches” with “loud buzzing in her left ear”. She wrestled just thrice as a result between 2006 and 2012.

Will Becky Lynch Leave WWE?

Becky Lynch, whose persona as ‘The Man’ led her to become one of the top wrestlers in the world, is currently working through the last two months of her current WWE contract with no confirmation of a new deal being struck with the market-leading organisation. However, when quizzed on whether WrestleMania 40 would be her last ‘Mania, Becky retorted, “I doubt that”.

Becky will challenge Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship at WrestleMania 40, which takes place between April 6 and 7 from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Lincoln Financial Field.
