‘The People’s Champion’s’ victory sealed Cody Rhodes’ fate for night two of WrestleMania 40.

The Rock and Roman Reigns have defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.

Headlining night one of WrestleMania 40 in what was billed as the biggest tag team of all time, the quartet wrestled an expectedly melodramatic contest full of finisher frenzies, surprise counters, and The Rock abusing his power as a member of the TKO Board of Directors, including at one point threatening to fire referee Chad Patton if he were to count The Rock and Seth Rollins out.

It came down to The Rock and Cody Rhodes after the former slapped ‘The American Nightmare’ with a blood-stained weightlifting belt as he attempted to Cross Rhodes Roman Reigns. From there, a Rock Bottom and a People’s Elbow handed The Rock his first pinfall victory since he infamously defeated Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32.

With that, Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes II tomorrow night (Sunday, April 7) will be contested under Bloodline Rules.

Will The Rock Wrestle Again In 2024?

Though The Rock hasn’t wrestled more than once in the space of a year since 2013, rumours of him wrestling post-WrestleMania 40 have increased as of late, with many expecting the much-anticipated singles match vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 41. The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer also reported previously that WWE officials had hoped he would be able to appear at their planned Saudi Arabia show in May.

However, The Rock will be out of commission physicality-wise immediately following ‘The Showcase of the Immortals’ as he begins work on two upcoming films. WWE President Nick Khan discussed The Rock’s WWE future on The Town (H/T PWInsider):

"[His next film] Smashing Machine. So it's his first, I think from what I understand, like not a hundred million dollar picture since he's become a big megastar. So he goes into that a week or two after WrestleMania. Yeah. And then goes into live Moana after that, which knock on wood should be a big hit.”
