Purrazzo is Latest Wrestler in Free Agency Speculation

What's next for Deonna Purrazzo? Purrazzo is currently working in TNA Wrestling but it's believed she'll soon become a free agent, just the latest wrestler who could end up in a new home.

Earlier in December, Fightful Select reported:

“To the best of my knowledge she has the ability to talk to AEW or WWE. I don’t know if she has. I believe that Impact intends to make an offer. If I were AEW or WWE, both, I would try to sign Deonna Purrazzo.“

According to another Fightful report, AEW and Purrazzo have discussed a deal:

Fightful has learned that before Purrazzo’s contract officially expired, there had already been interest expressed by multiple companies. Numerous sources indicated to Fightful that there have been some internal discussions with Purrazzo, and they’re hopeful they can land her in free agency. We’re told that was her preferred landing spot when finishing up with IMPACT.

The report also stated that Purrazzo would have work galore if she opted to return to the indie circuit.

In High-Demand

The 29-year-old wrestler will be in high demand. With a career dating back to 2012, Purrazzo honed her skills on the indie circuit and Ring of Honor, TNA Wrestling, and Stardom before inking a deal with the WWE in 2018. However, she found herself getting few matches on television and the WWE released her in 2020.

Purrazzo had no trouble finding work afterward...or success. She established herself as one of wrestling's top stars in IMPACT Wrestling, winning its Knockouts Champion and defending the title with an impressive array of matches, including the Knockouts Division's first Iron Man Match. Purrazzo has three Knockouts Championships to her credit, including one that nearly lasted a year.

With rumors swirling that the WWE and IMPACT Wrestling may be working out a partnership, fans shouldn't discount Purrazzo working in Titanland. Indeed, rumor has it that the WWE was interested in her but that there was an unofficial freeze on hiring free agents until recently.

An Asset Wherever She Works

Deonna should be an asset wherever she decides to work, at least based on what we've seen of her work in IMPACT over the last three years. Purrazzo is a tremendous worker, has charisma, and is capable of working with opponents who utilize different styles. Unfortunately, there's always the question of whether a promotion will utilize her correctly.

It's easy to imagine Purrazzo getting lost in the shuffle in the WWE, where it could take months just to get her into a TV program. Likewise, AEW could benefit from Deonna but its mishandling of talents such as Saraya and Ruby Riott suggests she might become the latest flash in the pan in AEW, not due to her efforts, but through AEW's bungled booking.
